TO LIVE IN A TREE - SPACE PLANNING - CDID 152 - 2023
This project was an assignment in CDID 152: Interior Design - Space Plan, to design a small home (13’x18’) situated in Haliburton, Ontario. The client was a potter who required an exterior shed for a pottery wheel and kiln. Inside the main home, I have included a second floor which allows for two special elements: a south facing porch and a north facing 3-panelled window workspace.
The bottom floor includes enough space for a full bathroom, a kitchen as well as space ideal for a sitting area. On the right side is the main entrance to the home and the left is a sliding door that leads to the back pathway to the pottery shed. With limited space, the stairs to the top floor had to be a compact design. Influenced by Japanese switchback stairs - the stairs are 2ft wide with a landing area. The top floor includes a work space that juts out of the floor plan. It is encased with glass and facing the North for ideal working light throughout the day. On the left is a porch area that is supported by the shape of the roof. It is South facing, ideal for time spent watching the sunset.
